Hark All Ye Nations / Day Dawn is Breaking

Ok, I have a back log of about three arrangements that I’ve meaning to post.  Most of what I’ve been writing over the last couple years is choral based, which means it’s much harder to get a suitable demo recording of the arrangement for learning purposes.   Additionally, I’ve not been able to get a full blown tenor or bass section to really sing what I’ve been writing.  Ideally, I’d love to have a choir at my disposable to record demo recordings for this site to help anyone who wants to use my music, but that’s been a bit of a challenge.   In any case, if your choir ends up doing one of my SATB pieces, please feel free to shoot me an e-mail as I’m curious as to how it ends up.

The first piece of my backlog that I want to post is a hymn mash up of Hark All Ye Nations and the Day Dawn is Breaking.  This was originally written for my Chinese congregation and is supposed to represent the beauty, excitement, and glory of Christ’s gospel spreading to the world. Writing in Chinese is a challenge because my compositions are first written in English. I  then need to customize syllables and lyrics (and some cases retranslate passages) to make it more appropriate for the Chinese language.  Since this was written for my Chinese congregation the demo is in Chinese (like I said I’m backlogged here so I don’t yet have a great English demo…if one of my blog readers wants to help me out here that’d be awesome)

The climax of this piece is fun and challenging as the two hymns come together at the climax. Everyone really needs to know their parts well or else it will sound like a jumble of words.  I welcome any comments.

Okay, this peace is amazing as well. I have six girls in my choir that speak Chinese. I can’t wait to give this arrangement to their Chinese teacher. It is hauntingly beautiful. Thanks again.
